Brown Club of United Kingdom is offering discounted tickets at £30 for an evening at the Old Vic.
This five-scene, two-hander has had some notable stagings in its relatively short life. The play had its premiere at the Royal Court theatre, London, in 2002. Stephen Daldry directed Michael Gambon, as the father, and Daniel Craig as the sons. It was produced in Edinburgh (Royal Lyceum) and New York (NY Theatre Workshop, with Sam Shepard) and made into a television drama with Rhys Ifans. On a few occasions, there have been actual father/son pairings, including John and Lex Shrapnel for the Young Vic’s production. Its last notable staging was just as the global pandemic started, being staged at The Bridge in early 2020. So, it only seems fitting that we emerge from the pandemic with this play at the Old Vic, and with two amazing Black British actors taking on the roles.
It would be fun to get a bunch of Brown people out for a night at the theatre and enjoy the play together. If you’d like to join, send an email to George.King@masecopw.com to get the Brown discount code…and maybe we can plan to congregate for drinks afterwards!
