The following are summaries of events that we have organised recently:
March 2011: Provost David Kertzer at the British Library
A good turnout of alumni attended a talk at the British Library by Brown University Provost David Kertzer. Members of the Brown faculty were also on hand to mingle with UK alumni.
Jan-March 2011: The BCUK Book Club
Wehave started a Book Club for Brown alumni. The first three books (so far) have been written by Brown authors.
January 2011: Cirque du Soleil
A smal group of alums traipsed to the Royal Albert Hall to see a new production by the Cirque du Soleil
December 2010: The English National Ballet's Nutcracker
We got together on a cold winter's night to enjoy a new production of The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum. A wonderful performance of this festive tale.
December 2010: Skating at Somerset House
A dozen BCUK alumni gathered at Somerset House to ring in the festive season on ice skates at Somerset House. After a festive and ocasionally bumpy sping around the ice, we headed off to a warmer location for a pub roast.
November 2010: Professor Michael Vorenberg lecture on "American Citizenship Debates: Current and historical perspectives"
Edward ’77, Elissa ’77 and Alexandra ’07 Annunziato hosted Brown University's Michael Vorenberg, associate professor of history, as he discussed his current research on American Citizenship debates both from a current and historical perspective.
October 2010: Prof. Barbara Tannenbaum on "Powerful Communication"
Over 40 Brown Club members attended a highly successful lecture by Brown Professor Barbara Tannenbaum on powerful and persuasive communication.
October 2010: Art Exhibition by Brown Alum Matthew Rose
There was a private view for Matthew Rose’s “Scared But Fresh” exhibit of collages and unusual items. Matthew spoke about his work and have a tour of the exhibition.
August 2010: Croquet on Hampstead Heath
Brown Club members and friends contested two highly competitive games of croquet with members of the Hampstead Heath Croquet Club.
August 2010: Lunch, punting and tea in Oxford
The Rector of Exeter College, Oxford, Frances Cairncross AM '67 kindly hosted Brown alumni for lunch and punting in Oxford.
July 2010: “Regulating the Banks: Finance, Growth and the Global Economy”
The Brown Club of the UK and Bank of America Merrill Lynch co-sponsored a lecture by Mark Blyth, a Professor of International Political Economy in the Department of Political Science at Brown University.
June 2010: The Brown Jabberwocks in Concert
The much loved Jabberwocks gave a concert to a select group of Brown University alumni and friends as part of their Summer 2010 European tour.
June 2010: Lecture by Brown University Professor Omer Bartov
Brown University Professor Omer Bartov gave a very engaging presentation on “Genocide in a Multiethnic Town: Event, Origins, Aftermath” to a small group of alumni in North London.
May 2010: La Fille du Regiment at the Royal Opera House
Brown alumni attended a performance of Donizetti's La Fille du Regiment at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The opera was excellent and the event was over-subscribed and will be repeated for a different opera in the 2010-11 season.
May 2010: Brown vs. Harvard Flag Football
Brown alumni played Harvard in a tightly contested game of flag football in Hyde Park.
April 2010: Brown Club Pub Night
The Brown Club of the UK hosted the latest in the ongoing series of US college pub nights.
March 2010: Lecture by Brown University Professor Timmons Roberts
Approximately 30 Brown alumni attended the lecture by Professor Roberts on "Climate Change, Justice, and What Happened in Copenhagen", making it the most popular in the BCUK lecture series to date.
February 2010: Stephen Beus at the Wigmore Hall
A small group of Brown alumni met on a rainy night at the Wigmore Hall to hear a recital by American pianist Stephen Beus.
February 2010: All Ivy Plus Reception
Over 200 alumni alumni from Brown and other UK-based clubs attended the 18th annual All Ivy Plus Reception at the East India Club in London.
December 2009: Xmas Wonderland
Skating and warm wine were enjoyed on a chilly afternoon on ice at Hyude Park's Winter Wonderland
November 2009: Thanksgiving Dinner
Friends and alumni got together for the annual Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Cornell Club
October 2009: Art Restoration
The Brown Club hosted an Art Restoration Evening at the Simon Gillespie Studio in central London. After a welcoming reception we were shown different techniques and methods for restoring fine art and paintings
September 2009: Welcome Back Drinks
The Brown Club of the UK held a small reception to welcome new (and returning) alumni to London

Over 220 people attended the Fourth Annual US Summer Reception at the Savile Club
April 2009: An Evening with Brown President Ruth Simmons
President Ruth Simmons made a surprise visit to London and gave hosted a reception at the Albion Gallery in Battersea.
March 2009: The Jack the Ripper Haunts Walk
Brown Alums turned back the clocks to 1888 to the Autumn of Terror when infamous Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of East London. Distinguished crime historian Donald Rumbelow lead and inquisitive group through the main murder sights, presenting us with the gory details and main suspects.
February 2009: All Ivy Plus Winter Cocktail Reception
Alumni from Brown and other Ivy Universities got together for the Annual All Ivy Plus Reception. The Reception, at the East India Club in London, was great fun.
December 2008: Wine Tasting
A small but happy band of alumni met for a seasonal wine tasting evening, plenty of fun was had to keep out the cold winter weather.
November 2008: Feather Boas Party
Brown alumni mixed, mingled and danced the night away at the Feather Boas event. The theme was 1920's Hollywood Glamour and Brown alumni showed up in the most glamourous of attire. Other universities represented include University of California, Columbia, University of Texas, Rice, Amherst, Yale, Boston College, Texas Tech, University of Florida, Notre Dame, & USC
October 2008: Happy Hour with the Penn Club
Brown alumni joined with Penn alums for a social hour at The Running Horse Pub.
September 2008: Film Night
Over 40 alumni and friends jined us for the first event of the 2008-09 year. The Club screened a document about former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci in Bayswater and the evening was a great success.
July 2008: US Alumni Summer Reception
Brown University alumni joined with US alumni from other colleges for the now annual gathering at the Savile Club.
May 2008: Faculty visit and lecture with John Tomasi
Associate Professor of Political Science John Tomasi discussed "Intellectual Diversity and the Essence of Brown" and the Political Theory Project. The event was hosted by Brown alum Nicole Gill.
April 2008: Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Ballet
25 Brown alumni and friends met at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to see the Royal Ballet's production of The Sleeping Beauty. Set to wonderful music by Tchaikovsky, we enjoyed the ballet and mingled over drinks in the intermissions.

Alumni from Brown and other Ivy Universities got together for the 16th Annual All Ivy Plus Reception. The Reception, at the East India Club in London, was a great success.
December 2007: Brown Club Xmas Drinks
A good crowd turned out for our end of year party at Pagliacci's in Holborn. Alumni from all classes attended to spread a little seasonal cheer.
November 2007: Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
We just celebrated our Annual Thanksgiving dinne at the East India Club. Alumni, students and friends joined to celebrate this special day in an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship.
October 2007: Young Alumni Drinks
The evening was an informal occasion and a great opportunity to meet fellow Brown alumni in Londonto start the new academic year.
July 2007: Second US Alumni Summer Reception
Following the success of the 2006 event, US alumni gathered at the Savile Club for the second annual summer reception. Brown was well represented along with alumni from many other US universities.
June 2007: Former RI Sen Lincoln Chafee on US Middle East Policy
Senator Chafee discussed US Middle East policy and the dichotomy between the Bush Administration's words and actions. He was joined at the East India Club reception by Barbara Stallings and Geoffrey Kirkman of Brown University's Watson Institute. Read the BAM profile of Senator Lincoln Chafee here
June 2007: Brown Men's & Women's Crew at Henley
The Brown Women's Varsity Crew A, coached by John and Phoebe Murphy, won the Remenham Cup for 'Elite Eights" late Sunday afternoon with a resounding 2 length victory over Radcliffe-Harvard, in the finals. A number of Brown parents and US alumni have been at Henley to support the team.
April 2007: BRIO Scholarship Reception
The Brown Club of the UK hosted a Brown International Scholarship reception on Monday, 16th April at 7pm at the Albion Gallery, Battersea. Over $50,000 was raised towards a new BRIO Scholarship fund. Thank you to all to gave generously and who attended the event.
March 2007: Private tour and dinner at Tate Modern
The Brown Club of the UK arranged a private tour of Tate Modern's permanent collection on Friday, March 23rd, followed by a three course dinner at Cafe 2 looking out over St.Paul's Cathedral.
February 2007: All Ivy Plus Winter Reception
The Brown University Club of the United Kingdom and the Cornell Club of London hosted the 15th All Ivy Plus Winter Cocktail Reception at the East India Club in London. The Club was formed in the middle of the 19th century and its original members were servants of the East India Company. Over 200 alumni from US colleges attended the 2007 event.
January 2007: An Evening with Brown Professor Tim Harris
The BCUK organised a talk by Brown Professor Tim Harris entitled "Towards Cultural History of Prejudice in Early Modern England". November 2006: Thanksgiving Dinner
Our annual Thanksgiving dinner, co-hosted by the Cornell and Brown alumni Clubs, welcomes alumni from Cornell, Brown and Penn, parents, students and friends to join in celebrating this special day in an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship.
President Simmons and Professor Donoghue in London, September 2006
Brown University President Ruth Simmons hosted an event at the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington to give a talk centered on life at Brown and her vision for the University over the coming years.
The event also featured a presentation from Professor John Donoghue '79 of the Neuroscience Department entitled: 'Mind Over Matter: Turning Thoughts into Action with Technology.' Professor Donoghue leads a team that has recently published detailed clinical trial results that show a tiny new brain sensor allowed a quadriplegic to open a prosthetic hand, control a robotic limb and move a computer cursor using thoughts alone.
